Alpinum TotalEnergies 2026
Official march website →Wind forecast for race day
Weather forecast starts being reliable around 7 days out. As the date gets closer you will see wind, temperature and rain chance over the route here. In the meantime, see below how the weather behaved in past editions.
The route
Alpinum TotalEnergies starts from Alp, in La Cerdanya, the high Pyrenean plateau sitting at 1,100 m and known as the sunniest valley in the Pyrenees. Three distances are offered: 185 km, 145 km, and 90 km. The name is accurate: the route accumulates several cols above 1,500 m, including the Coll de la Creueta, the Port del Compte, and the Coll de Creu de Perves. Starting from 1,100 m removes the first climb others have to deal with, but that does not make it easier; the passes that follow are genuinely long.
La Cerdanya is a tectonic basin surrounded by peaks above 2,000 and 2,500 m. From Alp the route heads out through the cols bordering the plateau, drops into neighbouring basins and climbs back. The profile is accordion-shaped: there are few sustained flat sections, and the route climbs and descends consistently throughout. The Port del Compte (1,764 m) and the Coll de la Creueta are the headline climbs alongside other cols above 1,500 m strung together across the day. The 185 km route is for riders who handle accumulated effort well.
La Cerdanya has its own microclimate: drier and sunnier than neighbouring Pyrenean valleys. Wind follows the valley axis, which runs E-W, meaning the flat sections across the plateau can produce a headwind or tailwind depending on the direction of travel. Eastbound sections may face 15-25 km/h of direct headwind; westbound sections can get a push. On the high cols, NW wind can be significant: 25-35 km/h on exposed ridgeline sections. July temperatures in La Cerdanya reach 22-30°C on the plateau but drop to 12-18°C on the high passes. Afternoon thunderstorms are common in July: on the long routes, plan to be back before 3-4 pm.
Alp is 150 km from Barcelona on the C-16 and has a train station on the La Molina Rodalies line. The village is small and the main accommodation hub is Puigcerdà, five kilometres away and the comarca capital. July is high season in La Cerdanya: book well in advance. The atmosphere of a high-mountain sportive in midsummer in this setting is hard to replicate elsewhere.
