La Purito Andorra 2026
Official march website →Wind forecast for race day
Weather forecast starts being reliable around 7 days out. As the date gets closer you will see wind, temperature and rain chance over the route here. In the meantime, see below how the weather behaved in past editions.
The route
La Purito Andorra is back, and in style. The ride dreamed up by Joaquim "Purito" Rodríguez reaches its tenth edition, and it still lives up to its billing as one of the hardest and most beautiful gran fondos in Europe. It starts in Sant Julià de Lòria and, new this year, finishes right in the centre of Encamp. Proper high mountain, a real cycling party atmosphere, and climbs you have seen in the pro races.
When and Where
The ride is on Sunday 2 August 2026, starting in Sant Julià de Lòria. Saturday 1 is the build up day, with number collection from 10:00 to 20:00 at the Centre Cultural i de Congressos Lauredià, the bike expo and the briefing, which returns to the theatre this year. Check any last minute details on the official site, lapuritoandorra.com.
Starts are staggered. The 4.2 and 2.9 routes roll out at 08:00 and the 0.9 at 08:20. The finish in Encamp closes at 17:30, and that is the cut off to earn your Finisher medal.
The Three Routes
At La Purito the routes are measured by climbing, not by distance. That is the whole point of the event.
- Route 4.2, around 116 km and 4,200 m of climbing. The big one. It links climbs like the Coll de Jou, the Coll de la Gallina, Engolasters, Beixalís and Ordino, with a sterrato sector thrown in. Only for well trained legs.
- Route 2.9, around 75 km and 2,900 m of climbing. It shares much of the course up to Engolasters. Very demanding, but more manageable if you have mountain miles in your legs.
- Route 0.9, around 26 km and 900 m of climbing. The most accessible, made for a first taste of the Purito atmosphere. Flat it is not.
What You Cannot Forget
A few things the dossier makes clear and worth having straight.
- Official jersey is compulsory. Without the La Purito 2026 jersey you do not get into the start pen and you do not get the Finisher medal. Put it on first thing.
- Approved helmet for the whole route, and plenty of sense, because this is an open traffic, non competitive ride.
- Time cuts. You have to clear the Coll de la Gallina before 11:30 and reach Encamp before 17:30. Miss them and you miss the medal.
The Wind and the Mountains, a Factor to Respect
The dossier itself gives a useful warning. Because of the date and the high Pyrenees setting, the temperature can swing sharply. And where the cold goes, the wind follows. On the exposed cols and the long descents, a headwind near the top or a crosswind on an open road changes your day just when you are already at your limit. Knowing where it will blow helps you pace yourself and descend with a clear head.
Prepare It with MoguWind Plan
Before the ride, take the GPX of your route and upload it to MoguWind Plan. It shows you the wind kilometre by kilometre for the day and time you set off, so you can see how it will hit each climb and where you will face a headwind, a tailwind or a crosswind. With 4,200 m of climbing ahead, spreading your effort is not a luxury.
It also tells you the best time to start and helps with fuelling, because it works out the effort from the real wind and the climbing, not just the distance. On a ride with six feed stations and hours in the mountains, reaching the last climbs well fed is half the battle.
Upload the GPX of your La Purito route and see the wind you will get on every climb.
Plan your route with MoguWind →Ride Day, with the Wind on Your Garmin
On Sunday, the MoguWind app for Garmin brings the wind to your screen in real time. An arrow shows where the wind is going and its colour tells you your situation, with the headwind, tailwind and crosswind components in km/h. On Andorra's cols and exposed descents, knowing when a crosswind is coming gives you the margin to stay safe without letting go of the bars.
It is free and installs in a couple of minutes from the Connect IQ Store.
Take the wind on your Garmin screen on every climb of La Purito.
