The route
The Vitoria-Gasteiz Gran Fondo is a cyclosportive in Vitoria-Gasteiz (Álava). The main route goes through Puerto de Herrera, Puerto de Vitoria. Available distances: Gran Fondo · 135 km / 2.000 m · Medio Fondo · 90 km / 1.200 m.
The typical climate in that area in June: 15-22 °C peak, cool mornings with likely fog on the peaks, high humidity and real chance of showers. June in northern Spain stays damp.. The actual day rules, of course — this page shows you the forecast wind and rain kilometre by kilometre when the event is within 7 days, and historical weather from past editions the rest of the time.
How to prepare for Vitoria-Gasteiz Gran Fondo
- Check the forecast the day before. June can be a perfect day or a front sneaking in — this page shows wind and rain by kilometre when the date is close. Use the past-editions slider to get a feel for previous years.
- Clothing: removable arm warmers, packable windproof and a light rain jacket — almost mandatory. The combination that works for this region in this season. If the day is settled and sunny you'll have spares; if a front comes in, you'll be glad you stuffed them in your jersey pocket.
- Hydrate from km 0. Don't wait for thirst: June heat + humidity gets you dehydrated faster than you notice. Bottle with iso from the start, refill at every feed station.
- Pocket food. Plan 3-4 solid units (bars, banana, dates) and 2-3 gels for a long ride, on top of what you grab at official stops. Fuel up well before the hardest climb.
- Early start. June marches leave early to dodge afternoon heat. Eat dinner early and sleep close to the start if you can.
Course direction and start date are fixed by the organisation, but your average speed is up to you: slide it up top to see how the wind direction and your fuelling needs change with it.
